Nokia N82 Black Edition

Woot! Just got myself a Nokia N82 Black Edition, it costs a bit more than the normal silver edition but it’s way better looking than the silver one which was butt ugly.

I was actually thinking of buying a new camera to upgrade my old Canon iXus I but then I read the reviews of the Nokia N82 and how it was the best camera phone out there (with a Xenon Flash to boot) so I decided why not get the Nokia N82 Black Edition instead. I get a decent camera, a phone, GPS receiver, music and video player all in one device. Plus I’m always carrying it around so I’ll probably take more pictures with it, unlike my old Canon iXus I which I never really got to use since I sometimes leave behind since I was lugging several gadgets already.

I’ve been using the Nokia N82 Black Edition for about three days now and so far am quite satisfied. I’d had a few issues with the GPS (too slow), and 3G data access (not sure if this is a problem with Smart or the phone itself) but overall I deem it a good buy.

Sansa Clip Firmware 1.01.29 Update

Good news for Sansa Clip owners, firmware 1.01.29 just came out and it has loads of useful features. For me the best new feature is that podcasts and audiobooks are now treated separately from the music files (just put them in the Audiobook/Podcast directory or tag them as Audiobook/Podcast). In addition to that the Sansa Clip will now autobookmark Audiobooks/Podcasts separate from your music files, so you can listen to an audiobook/podcast then music and back to your audiobook/podcast and still resume where you left off.

Other improvements include Ogg-Vorbis support and ability to skip songs when on shuffle mode without having to reshuffle. Complete list of bug fixes and features below:

Issues addressed:
1) Fixed occasional early expiration of Rhapsody Licenses.
2) Battery indicator is now much more linear with Play time remaining.
3) Fixed a bug in FF/ REW of Long VBR MP3 files.
4) Fixed Genre can appear two times depending on the Tag encoding.
5) Device highlights “Play Previous” after returning to Music from FM playback.
6) Fixed bug with maintaining Custom EQ setting / volume level after power cycle.
7) After FM Autoscan, device will return to FM tuner display.
8) Bug fixes relating to deleting files on the device.
Enhancements:
1) Improved the speed to change DRM-protected tracks in Plays from Device Mode.
2) Increased Brightness for 4 GB devices.
3) Added OGG-Vorbis (*.ogg) Decoder Support in MTP and MSC mode.
4) Ported Audiobook and Podcast Sorting and Resume features found in Fuze.
Content placed in Audiobook or Podcast Folders will be accessed separately from Music.
Content with Genre tags of “Audiobook” or “Podcast” will be handled from any location and sorted by the UI..
PodCast and Audiobook have been organized by 2 level hierarchy.
Podcast content is sorted with newest episode first.
Auto Bookmark: These contents will prompt the user with “Resume?” or “Restart” option when restarted.
5) Improved the Shuffle algorithm to maintain the sequence of up to 2000 songs. User can skip to the previously played songs without reshuffling. Sequence is preserved after power off and on.
6) Handle playlists up to 1000 songs. Fixed playlists with large count taking long time to load.
7) Battery Power percentage is available on the “Settings> System Info” Screen at the end.
8) Device Auto Powers off if the Radio is Paused / Muted, to do power saving.
9) Add support for Melon SKT MusicDRM V1.4 (For Korea market).
10) Performs Faster, more complete MTP Format operation.
