MIA

Wow, it’s been almost two months since my last post not to mention that in the past 4 months I’ve only made 4 or 5 posts at that. And it certainly shows in the bottomline, though this site is still earning, adsense revenue has gone down 30% in the past two months… Guess I just have to force myself to post on a regular basis…

World Vision Philippines

I dropped by SM North EDSA earlier to buy some items when I chanced upon a booth of World Vision Philippines. In case you’re not familiar with World Vision Philippines it’s basically a charity organization where you can sponsor a child by giving money to World Vision which they then use to help the child’s community and provide him with education. What is nice about this setup is that they try to make it personal by having the sponsored child write to you plus they also update you on the progress of the child. Communication is not limited one way, you can also write back to your sponsored child if you’d like.

Anyway, I used to sponsor a child via World Vision a couple of years ago but for some reason it suddenly got terminated (according to the people at the booth it might be because my credit card number changed), I always thought of looking into renewing but really never allocated the time to do it. The outlook in my personal life has lately turn quite bright and I thought it was quite fortuitous that I would encounter World Vision on this day. So I went to the booth and decided to sponsor a child again, too bad I couldn’t sponsor the child I used to sponsor so I just choose someone else - Jhon, born Dec 19, 1999 (hmmm there might be a lotto combination in there). It doesn’t take much to sponsor someone, P450 per month will do (which is less than what some people I know spend on coffee at Starbucks in a week). World Vision also makes it easy for you to do it, you can either have it deducted automatically via credit card (my choice), you can deposit via bank or provide post dated checks.

So if you’re going to SM North EDSA do drop by the World Vision booth (at the Block 2nd floor I think) or check out their website www.worldvision.org.ph and check out what it’s all about. I guarantee you the personal satisfaction that you get from knowing you helped out someone it very much worth the P450 a month…

Cardinal Santos Hospital

I’m currently here at the Cardinal Santos Hospital where my wife will undergo an operation. I’ve been to quite a few hospitals and I gotta say if ever I had to be hospitalized (knock on wood!) the Cardinal Santos Hospital would be on the top of my list. This place is swanky and doesn’t have that hospital smell-of-death to it. They have a coffee vendo machine which has a gazillion different versions of coffee - coffee latte, frappucino, you name it they got it. The only downside is it’s very expensive especially the food. I bought a bag of Oishi crackers and it cost me P37, if I bought it in a grocery it would probably cost P12-15 these guys charge an arm and a leg! Oh well I guess if there’s any place where it’s gonna cost you an arm and a leg it’s a hospital. At least for me it’s only metaphorically and not literally.

Oh and I was reading the newsletters Cardinal Santos Hospital have posted on the bulletin boards and I came across this interesting tidbit - according to Time magazine 7,000 people die annually due to illegible doctors handwriting. Makes me glad I didn’t become a doctor, otherwise my sanskrit style penmanship would probably have killed dozens of people by now.

Labor Day Holiday

Today is a Holiday - Labor Day which we ironically celebrate by NOT Labor-ing. I’ve always found that curious, isn’t that the equivalent of celebrating Valentines Day being unromantic, uh wait that IS how I celebrate Valentines Day ;-)
