Heroes and Dexter Season Enders

Just watched today the season finale’s of Heroes and Dexter. Gotta say Heroes: Villains was such a disappointment, a major snoozer. Character motivations weren’t consistent, you never really felt the world threatened nor what exactly Nathan and his Dad’s goal, boring and rehashed plotlines. I’m hoping the next one is a lot better.

In sharp contrast the third season of Dexter was excellent. I like how they managed the Miguel Prado plotline. At the start I thought Miguel Prado would be hounding Dexter similar to David Carradine in season 2. But the show surprised me and made Miguel Prado Dexter’s kill buddy. Wonder what they will have up their sleeves in season 4 ?

Heroes: Villains

Where to begin ? So many things happening in the latest chapter of Heroes entitled “Villains”. Things start off with Future Peter going into the past to shoot his brother. No surprises there as a lot of people thought the shooter was either Peter or HRG.

What surprised me however is Sylar getting to Claire right off the bat and “copying” her powers. He says something about Claire not being able to die, which depresses Claire especially when she loses her capability to feel pain which she appreciates since it makes her feel human. Off course Sylar bungles it again, getting caught again by the “company” when he gets knocked out by Veronica Mars (Elle).

Mohinder meanwhile discovers how to give ordinary humans powers, trying it out on himself. He becomes stronger and faster, and hornier as well.

Hiro goes off on another adventure, this time going against a female version of flash. This time future Ando won’t die but rather betray Hiro so he gives him the cold shoulder. Nikki has her own is-she-isn’t-she plotline.

So many changes indeed but one thing remains constant though and that is the world is in danger again. It seems to me that no matter what the heroes do the world will encounter a major disaster the only thing that changes is its nature.

Good Time to be a Couch Potato

After two or three months of relative dearth of good tv shows (good thing I was able to score season 2 of Friday Night Lights) comes the deluge. Yes, many of our favorite tv shows are here.

Dexter’s back to his killing ways with Jimmy Smits as his likely protagonist. Coincidentally enough the one role I really remember Jimmy Smits from is as a lawyer in L.A. Law which in Dexter he also plays one though he’s on the government side this time.

Prisonbreak has also started, already with four episodes but haven’t had the time to watch it yet. Wonder how long they can string out the “get-out-of-prison” routine.

On the sci-fi front we’ve got Heroes which is starting tomorrow with the next chapter called “Villains”. Hopefully the next chapter won’t suck like the previous one. Also, watched two episodes of Fringe which is an X Files derivative. Though the plots are nothing new it has held my attention so far, the repartee between Bishop Jr and Sr has been quite amusing, the over all arc though (The Pattern) seems kinda weak.

Lastly when you talk of TV Shows you can’t leave out the ones from HBO, the gang from Entourage’s back with Vince Chase having problems getting decent work after his last Indie movie tanked.

I’ve also started watching True Blood. Basically the show’s premise is that vampires have come out in the open, humans aren’t supposed to fear them since the vampires eat synthetic blood. It stars Anna Paquin who plays a telepath but is unable to read the mind of a particular vampire. So far it has been uneven, there are parts that drag and then there are parts which grip your attention. It kinda reminds of Carnivale in terms of atmosphere and pacing. Battlestar Galactica Season 5 Premiere

Just finished watching the Season 5 Premiere of Battlestar Galactica. BOOM! Right at the start we’re treated to an awesome in space set piece battle. For a TV show the CGI in the sequence was top notch. The premiere follows the plot lines left hanging in the season 4 finale. Where did Starbuck come from ? How are the four cylons dealing with their newly revealed status ? What’s gonna happen to Baltar ? Then ends with a WTF cliffhanger (which I’m predicting would be a non-event)…

BTW I’ve often wondered for a species that’s nearing extinction I would think the remaining humans would have sex more often ? Shouldn’t they be behaving like the Romans who if we are to believe the TV series "Rome" have sex everytime they can and with everyone possible including those of the same sex ? Or at the very least they’d assign breeders whose sole function would be to generate babies.

Anyway with Jericho done, Heroes and Prisonbreak in hibernation I now have something else to look forward to watching again (together with Lost)…
